We Were Young
Chloe Hewitt
We were young once,
With our eyes full of stars
And our hearts brimming with desire.
This cruel world took from us
And never gave a glance to our sorrow.
Unchecked, boundless we ran;
The grassy meadows were our freedom.
Laying side by side, hand in hand,
Our dreams stretched beyond our minds.
We were carefree once.
Heavy are the tears that fall from your eyes
When you call out my name.
Broken are the cries that pierce my lips
As I call out your name.
We were hopeful once.
Why did they drag you from me?
Pits of the darkest abysses
Where I cannot reach.
Where did your smile go?
Fallen among the bones
Of those in eternal sleep.
We were young once.
If I was given the whole world in my hands,
I would ask to hold you again
One last time,
Before we can no longer be young anymore.
